Archaeological observation zones.

Archaeological observation zones.

What do an architect and an archaeologist have in common (apart from the first letter of their job title)?

It may be that both of them are involved in a construction or renovation project in Luxembourg. This is because as soon as a building project in the Grand Duchy is located in an “archaeological observation zone” (ZOA – Zone d’observation archéologique), the Institut national de recherches archéologiques (INRA) must be contacted by the architect and any resulting instructions of the Ministry have to be respected. And how do we know whether we are dealing with a ZOA or not? By consulting the Geoportal [https://www.geoportail.lu/], the official national platform for geographic data and services which offers a significant amount of information that is relevant to the architect's and urbanist's work.
